Daegu Elementary’s STEAM Night Wows with Creativity, Community, and Curiosity

Daegu, South Korea – May 1, 2025 — Not even a spring downpour could dampen the energy and excitement at Daegu Elementary School’s annual STEAM Night, a vibrant evening that brought science, technology, engineering, art, and math to life for more than 400 enthusiastic attendees.
From robot coding and bubbling science experiments to face painting and a bustling escape room, the event transformed the school into a hands-on wonderland of learning and laughter. Despite the pouring rain, determined volunteers and staff quickly moved booths under cover, ensuring nothing stood in the way of fun and exploration.
“This kind of turnout and energy, even with the weather, just proves how special our DES community is,” said Dr. Kevin Traynor. “The collaboration between our school, DMHS, and the broader community is incredible. It’s a true team effort.”

A Night to Remember
Months of planning paid off as families arrived to discover a school brimming with interactive stations. Students proudly showcased fifth-grade STEAM projects in the cafeteria while others marveled at the magic of simple machines or got their faces painted with colorful designs.
Each station was led by passionate volunteers — from teachers and parents to high school students and military personnel — all committed to sparking curiosity and creativity. The post command team even helped welcome guests at the entrance, setting the tone for an evening of warmth and wonder.
Some favorites of the crowd included:
- Science Experiments with Ms. Buckley and Ms. Uliasz that fizzed, popped, and amazed
- Ozobots and Beebots programmed by budding techies with Dr. Martinez’s team
- Escape Room Challenge by Mr. Rubio and Mr. Berkley that tested critical thinking under pressure
- 3D Printing Demos by Mr. and Mrs. Yang that showed innovation in action
- Planetarium Tours hosted by Mrs. Mayfield and team, offering a cosmic journey through the stars
Families also enjoyed potting plants, building STEAM-themed toys, creating pet rock masterpieces, and posing for photos at a lively booth staffed by Ms. Lundy and Ms. Obando.
